Develop Future Leaders Over The Holidays With These 3 Steps

As we noted in our last blog post, the holidays offer great opportunities for rest (which is important for your YoPros!) and reflection. During this downtime, however, it’s also an opportunity for growth.

Consider using a few of the tips below to help develop your future leaders at your company. These tips are proven ways to keep your young professionals engaged during periods of low activity and increased time away from the office. You might even be surprised who is interested in engaging with this, too.

Check them out below!

The fix?

  • Offer professional development. Find ways to engage your young professional talent through learning (direct them to free webinars or LinkedIn Learning) over the holidays. This shows them that you have their professional interests in mind and want them to stay focused on growth despite setbacks.

  • Create opportunities for them to lead. When work feels slow, offering ways for your young professional talent to lead – if appropriate – can be just the thing they need to stay engaged at work. You can start small with an internal lead opportunity (my favorite example is always leading a coat or canned good drive, which is in high demand during winter months) or connect with nonprofits in the area that need support on a bigger scale.

  • Stay transparent and communicative. Share your plans (vision, mission, goals, etc.) with them for the new year. Offering clear outlines of your expectations for the year ahead (revenue, new goals, new clients, etc.) will increase loyalty, ownership, and engagement in your business. Plus, they will have a ton of time to think about it over the holidays!

Keep in mind that another recent blog post showed that YoPros are spooked the most by limited career advancements in the workplace. Offering them room to grow with these types of opportunities can help combat this fear.
